Note

Orvan Lee OxenriderLee grew up in Beaufort and Walterboro, SC graduating in Walterboro. He was very bright and won the Albert Love Scholarship to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. This was a big deal since several thousand people competed for the one scholarship which not only paid all tuition but all expenses plus a living allowance too.Lee preferred Lee to Orvan and was known that way to his friends. He was involved only in two professions his entire life. He was a newspaper reporter, editor, and wrote columns. He also reviewed books and had a huge personal library collection. He acted in little theatre groups, including Beaufort and I believe Savannah, Ga.His other longtime profession was in radio broadcasting where he worked most of his life. Places from Beaufort, Walterboro and Spartanburg, SC to Savannah, Griffin, and Atlanta, to name a few.As a musician, he had early on decided to be a band director and went about learning the basics of nearly all the instruments in the high school band, finally settling on the keyboards. He even performed in blackface at nightclubs in the sixties before that was taboo.Lee was born with a heart murmur that plagued him throughout his life, finally catching up with him at age 53. - Ken Oxenrider Added: Jul. 9, 2008
